Henry Van Dyke-on talent-due 10/710/2/2016
"Use what talents you possess: The woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang the best." ~ Henry Van Dyke (American novelist and musician) Did you know we are all born with at least 700 talents? We only develop a handful in our lifetime. What talents or skills do you possess that you KNOW about-right now? What are others that you think you would be good at if you did have the time to develop them, whether artistic or not. How will you go about discovering these skills or talents? Why is it important to fail in order to discover these talents? Due Friday 10/7 0 Comments

I personally do not have many talents. As of right now I am pretty artistic and I do well in school. I used to play the piano some and I feel like I could have been really good at it if I had stuck with it. My dad and grandpa play so I always played with them. It is important to fail in life because you can see what you are good at and what doesn’t fit. Once you find out what your talents are, you practice until you are great at it.

I agree with Karis, you wouldn't be able to figure out what talents you have until you've tired. Until you don't FAIL you won't Succeed. I have many talents, but I'll be honest I'm pretty lazy. I've played violin, soft ball, flag foot ball, and I use to draw and also dance. I was great at all but then I moved to North Carolina and just became laid back with a lot. Just to live the slow life. 😄

It is both a good thing and a bad thing to be "slack"... you won't discover your hidden talents if you don't actively engage yourself....and also sometimes if you just relax and expect less of yourself in some areas, you can really be surprised at what you CAN do.

You just haven't given yourself the opportunity and experiences to discover all your talents yet! They are there!!

It is fascinating that I have 700 skills that for the not part that I am not yet aware of. Artistically , I am aware that I have skills such as creativity and aesthetic awareness that both aid in the creation of my art work. Non artistically, I am skilled at is advanced reading and critical thinking. Some things I think I could develope so that I could be better is math and the ability to learn foreign languages.

Yes, it is fascinating to know we all have all this potential talent waiting to be exposed.... and also something that makes me want to take risks in life and try new and different things. I know I am not good in math, and dislike it, but what it I gave it another try by enrolling in a class? I have thought about it....

I can't believe we are born with 700 talents. That's crazy. I think that I am doing well in school. I always try my best and make pretty good grades. Also, I would say one of my talents is photography. I love taking cool artsy pictures. I'm always encouraging my family to take pictures, so we will all have those memories one day. I was a competitive dancer for 11 years and I believe if I would have stuck with it, it would be one of my best talents today.

I would consider myself to be artistic and pretty athletic. It's amazing to think that everyone is born with so many talents. As of right now I think that I possess skills in volleyball as well as on the wheel. I'm not that great at handbuilding, but I have a new passion for throwing on the wheel because it's relaxing and fun.

I think i'm artistic and I do have pretty good grades so those are the talents that I currently have. Some talents I wish i had were to be better at math and have better communication skills. I think i just have to try hard to get both of these skills, and you also have to have more experiences is you want to improve them. Because If you don't fail you wont know what you did wrong and you cant improve upon yourself and make that skill better.

Oscar- yes! If you don't step out and risk failure you won't learn or get better at anything....we learn the very most when we fail at whatever task we are trying to accomplish. That is how we learn!

I don't think I have many talents but I do get good grades in school, I think I am pretty artistic and creature when it comes to pottery. When I was younger I did play the trumpet. If I would have kept playing and put the time and effort into it I think I would have gotten better. Failing is important in life because that is what motivates people to do better. When you fail at something you should never give up and push yourself to do more.

I don't think that I am talented at a lot of things but I think I am a pretty good artist. I am good at doing things that I want to do as an artist and not something that the whole class is assigned to. I think that I make pretty good grades but there's always room for improvement for me. It's really hard for me to believe that we are born with other 700 talents when I can't even think of many talents that I possess.

My main talent at this point in my life is playing guitar. I do pretty well in school too. I believe if I put the time into it, and I probably will have to in the future, I would be a good public speaker. I think to discover new talents I'll have to try new things. Though I may fail at many, it's important to learn from these experiences because they are valuable, whether good or bad.

Id say my talent insist of drawing i loved to sing and i'm not sure what else. i think i could dance if i actually tried that's my problem i don't like trying new things. i have a comfort zone i like to stay in and don't leave it very much. to find new skills i will have to get out of that zone and actually try new things. But failing at something either you can keep trying or give up if you keep trying and it goes good then you know its a new skill your have it just depends of your determination.

I would say for myself that i'm pretty athletic and i have some artistic abilities. I may not be the best at a sport or drawing or any art work work for that matter, but i feel i still have potential. I have always wanted to try an instrument but i just never got interested in it like some of my friends or family members. I could never get it right in other words. I think it's okay to fail, your not always gonna do your best at everything in life. My strongest talent right now would be volleyball and the wheel(even though i'm still learning). I am proud with these things!
